White (philosophy, St. Cloud State U.) introduces students to a wide range of controversial issues to encourage critical thinking about ethical and moral dilemmas in modern culture. The first chapter provides an introduction to ethical theories, followed by eight issue-oriented chapters covering topics such as affirmative action, abortion, capital punishment, and the environment. Each chapter provides an introduction to the issue, selected readings, primarily from contemporary authors (but also incorporating a few historical philosophers), problem cases, and suggestions for further reading in the subject.
